Problems to step around with AI artwork

More and more, we receive customer artwork for quoting print jobs or for actual production that has been created using various AI software. The use of AI tools has helped people realize their visions for the artwork, but it does come with some potential problems.

The first concern is the ability to edit. The artwork may not be editable in the traditional sense. While you may enjoy the look of your piece, it may be extremely difficult or virtually impossible to edit it for changes like addresses, dates, names, etc...

Another issue is the resolution and scalability of the artwork. While creating a business card may work well, the artwork may not be able to be scaled up to a larger size like a flyer, poster, or banner, and may look fuzzy. Again, it my be difficult to isolate and re-arrange various parts, like logos and phone numbers, to accommodate different layouts and orientations.

Physical sizing is also an issue we have encountered frequently. While your prompts to AI may have included the size of the piece you want (Make an 8.5” x 11” flyer), the AI doesn’t seem to understand this. We’ve received artwork many times for flyers that work out to 8.5” x 12.75”, rather than 11”.  If we change it to 11” tall, then proportionately the flyers are only 7.33” wide. It would seem the AI has set sizes and doesn’t want to build anything outside of those defined parameters.

We hope these thoughts on AI-generated artwork help you to avoid any future problems you any encounter when seeking printing services.
